Job Summary:

The Sterile Processing Technician (SPT) is responsible for the decontamination, preparation, sterilization, and distribution of surgical instruments and equipment used in acute hospital operating rooms. This role ensures that all sterile supplies meet quality standards to support surgical services. The technician collaborates with surgical teams and adheres to infection control protocols to maintain a safe and efficient sterile processing environment.

Responsibilities:

• Decontaminate, clean, and inspect surgical instruments and equipment following established protocols.
• Assemble, package, and sterilize surgical trays and instruments according to surgeon and procedure specifications.
• Maintain inventory of sterile supplies and coordinate distribution to operating rooms.
• Ensure compliance with infection control and safety standards.
• Document sterilization processes and maintain accurate records.
• Collaborate with surgical and clinical staff to meet procedural needs.
• Perform routine maintenance and quality checks on sterilization equipment.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Certification from CBSPD (Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution) or IAHCSMM (International Association of Healthcare Central Service Materiel Management).
• Experience in an acute hospital operating room sterile processing environment.
• Knowledge of sterilization techniques, infection control, and surgical instrumentation.
• Ability to follow detailed protocols and maintain quality standards.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Previous experience in sterile processing within a surgical services department.
• Familiarity with hospital electronic inventory and tracking systems.
• Additional certifications related to sterile processing or surgical technology.

Special Considerations:

• Position requires working day shifts, 5 days a week, 8 hours per day.
• Local candidates within a 50-mile radius are not eligible; candidates must be from outside this radius or hold a travel contract.
• Must comply with hospital and regulatory standards for sterile processing and safety.

Scheduling:

• Scheduled for 5 days per week, daytime shifts (5x8 hours).
• Shift assignments are fixed and determined by department needs.
