In July 2025, the State of California implemented the Personal Leave Program (PLP) 2025. This program temporarily reduces employees’ monthly base pay in exchange for paid leave credits. This position is subject to PLP 2025 and will have a monthly base pay reduction of 3% in exchange for 5 hours of leave credits through June 2027. The salary ranges shown on this job posting do not reflect the salary reduction.

Working Conditions

• This position in located in the Riverpoint Marketplace area of West Sacramento (10 minutes from downtown), near the IKEA. Our building offers a free parking lot to employees and is within walking distance of numerous restaurants and shops.

• This position is eligible for a hybrid telework option, in accordance with CAL FIRE’s telework policy, and will be required to report to the office as needed/required. The successful candidate must reside in California upon appointment.

• Statewide travel (15%) with possibly overnight stays. Will be required work at remote facilities or incidents to affect repairs onsite, which can involve overnight travel. Hardware repair requires occasional lifting of PC’s and printers which should not exceed 40 pounds.

STATEMENT OF QUALIFICATIONS

Statement of Qualifications

All interested applicants must file an "Examination and/or Employment Application (Std. 678), a resume, and a Statement of Qualifications (SOQ). Any applicants who do not complete the SOQ (details and guidelines below) and submit it with their application and resume may be disqualified from consideration. Resumes, letters, and other materials will not be evaluated or considered as responses to the SOQ. The screening committee will compare each applicant's qualifications for the position against specific job-related evaluation criteria developed from the knowledge, skills, and abilities for the job classification. Statement of Qualifications Guidelines

When preparing your Statement of Qualifications, please follow these guidelines:

• The information you provide must be complete and presented in a clear and concise manner.
• Your Statement of Qualifications must be typewritten using Arial 12-point font.
• Limit your response to no more than a total of two (2) typewritten pages
• Number your responses to match the question asked.
• Be specific with your responses and provide examples from job experiences.

1. Describe your experience in managing Oracle databases (on-premises and/or cloud-based). Include specific examples of how you've designed, coded, tested, and implemented database procedures, packages, and triggers.
2. Explain your experience with the full lifecycle management of databases, including operations, encryption, backup and recovery, performance tuning, maintenance, and patching. Also, describe your experience with database security, focusing on how you have managed storage security and audit processes.
3. Can you provide examples of methods you use to prevent data loss as a database administrator?
4. What has been the most challenging database project you have worked on and how did you overcome or mitigate these challenges?
