The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources strives to maintain healthy populations of fish andwildlife across the state. The employees of Kentucky Fish and Wildlife are passionate about the resources theymanage. The Wildlife Division of Kentucky Fish and Wildlife is currently seeking a Wildlife Biologist III towork within the Southeastern Region Branch.

This position will consist of specialized biological work in habitat and wildlife population management. Thecandidate will provide expertise in leading and conducting research and surveys on a specific group ofwildlife species or habitats. The position will be responsible for: planning, implementing, and providingguidance on habitat improvement and species management.

Responsibilities and job duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Direct regional wildlife habitat and land management programs.
• Execute open land, forest managing, andprescribed fire initiatives on public lands within an assigned district.
• Collaborate with regional, division,program staff, and other conservation groups to design and deploy focal habitat enhancement projects.
• Providetechnical support on conservation and habitat management to private and public lands owners.
• Lead regional initiatives, biological research, and public outreach.
• Serve as the primary liaison withinan assigned district between wildlife division programs and regional staff.
• Complete wildlife surveys, diseasesampling, and habitat surveys for a variety of species.
• Resolve wildlife nuisance, damage, and inured or sickcomplaints.
• Deliver public presentations and represent the agency at meetings and workshops.
• Manage public land and conservation agreements.
• Develop and enhance public area agreements to expandregional conservation footprints.
• Partner with the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife (KDFWR) staff,organizations, and individuals to integrate wildlife habitat practices into new and existing agreements.
• Administer program resources, reporting, and special projects.
• Determine resource requirements andevaluate the progress of regional management and research assignments.
• Write comprehensive technical reports,surveys, and project evaluations.
• Complete special projects.
• Supervise interim staff. Directly manage the daily operations and performance of interim Fish andWildlife Technicians and professional biological staff.
• Review and approve of the interims' time entries andapprove of leave requests.

Preferred skills may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Experience using computer mapping software and writing detailed management plans as needed.
• Previous supervisory skills would be preferred along with GIS related skills and knowledge of commoncomputer applications.
• Must be able to communicate effectively in writing and in person and utilize computers for day-to-dayoperations.
• Candidates will work with a variety of constituents and user groups.

Minimum Requirements

EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree in a biological science, wildlife biology, fish and wildlife management, conservation biology, natural resources, environmental sciences, or related field.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Must have three years of professional experience in wildlife management, wildlife biology and/or a related field.

Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: A master's degree in wildlife management, wildlife biology or a related field will substitute for one year of the required experience. A PhD degree in wildlife management, wildlife biology or a related field will substitute for two years of the required experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must possess a valid driver's license prior to employment in this job classification. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification. Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possesses and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s) or other credentials.

Working Conditions

Spends majority of time outdoors.

Probationary Period

This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
