Front of House Lead — Supermoon Bakehouse

Supermoon Bakehouse is New York City's most imaginative bakery — a bakehouse, café, and gelataria rolled into one storefront at 120 Rivington Street, open every day, where croissants, cruffins, donuts, eclairs, and gelato are treated like edible art. Beyond the counter, we run an active wholesale program, plus shipping, catering, and corporate gifting. We're growing, with a second location opening at Chelsea Market — which means real room to grow for people who start with us now.

About the Role

The Front of House Lead is the heartbeat of the floor. This is a hands-on, service-first role: you spend the large majority of your time taking care of guests — serving, ringing up orders, pulling shots, and packing pastries — while also being the steady, senior presence who keeps the shift running smoothly.

You're the person the team looks to in the moment: setting the pace, holding the standard, opening and closing the store, and making sure every guest leaves happy.

This is a great fit for someone who loves the energy of a busy counter, takes pride in doing the small things well, and wants to step up as a leader on the floor without stepping away from the work itself.

Reports to: Head Chef

What You'll Do

Guest Service & Hospitality (the heart of the job)

• Provide warm, fast, genuine service to every guest, all shift long
• Run the register: take orders, process payments, handle the cash drawer accurately, and keep the line moving
• Make coffee and espresso drinks to standard — dialing in, pulling shots, steaming, and serving
• Pack pastries and assemble to-go, online/pickup, DoorDash, delivery, and wholesale orders, plus gift boxes, with accuracy and care
• Package gelato pints and other retail items
• Run food, drinks, and pastries during busy service periods
• Keep the pastry case full, the counter clean, and the merchandising sharp and on-brand
• Answer guest questions about the menu, allergens, and the brand with confidence and enthusiasm
• Recover gracefully when something goes wrong, and turn first-time guests into regulars

Running the Shift

• Be the senior presence on the floor and the go-to point of contact for the team during your shift
• Set the pace and energy of service, keeping things smooth, warm, and efficient during rushes
• Open and close the store following established checklists, including register reconciliation and end-of-day procedures
• Make sure stations are stocked, the floor is covered, and the team has what it needs to deliver great service
• Keep the team on-task and on-standard by leading from the floor and offering in-the-moment guidance and reminders
• Be the first point of contact for guest issues.
• Pass clear shift notes to the Head Chef & Owner — what went well, what's running low, and anything that needs follow-up

Training & Assessment Shifts

• Run training and assessment shifts: have new hires and trial candidates work alongside you so you can see how they handle the actual job — service, register, coffee, packing, and the pace of the floor
• Observe and assess whether someone can do the work to Supermoon's standard, and share your observations with the Head Chef & Owner
• Help welcome, train, and show the ropes to new team members so they get up to speed quickly and confidently

Back of House, Production & Cleaning Support

• Pitch in on entry-level BOH tasks as needed — basic prep, stocking, dishwashing, and restocking supplies
• Support the BOH production team with hands-on prep, including rolling and finishing cruffins and donuts and punching, scooping, and portioning cookie dough
• Assist with daily pastry and bakery prep tasks, and help restock and organize production areas
• Keep the store, counter, equipment, and back areas clean, organized, and sanitary throughout the shift
• Follow all food safety and health code standards, and help the team do the same
• Take out trash and recycling, break down boxes, and keep the space tidy and presentable

What We're Looking For

• 2+ years of lead or keyholder experience in a fast-paced café, bakery, restaurant, or hospitality setting.
• Genuine love of hospitality and a knack for making guests feel welcome
• Comfortable and quick on a POS/register, with solid cash-handling accuracy
• Coffee and espresso experience preferred (or a real eagerness to learn fast)
• Calm, organized, and dependable under pressure during a rush
• A natural leader by example who others trust and want to work alongside
• Strong communication skills and good judgment about when to handle something and when to escalate
• Reliable, punctual, and genuinely excited about Supermoon's product and brand

Physical Requirements

Involves standing for most of the shift, climbing stairs repeatedly, bending, stooping, and frequent reaching with arms and hands while handling objects under 20 lbs. May include lifting and moving objects of 20 lbs or more.

Schedule & Status

• Status: Full-time, non-exempt (hourly)
• Schedule: Full-time, 5 days per week with open availability — our days run early to late, so you must be able to work weekends, early starts (as early as 6am), and late finishes (as late as 11pm)
